The Heffer TT was run on Tuesday night and boy what a race we had. It was run along side a Basildon CC event and this has not happened for a long long while - The BWCC had more riders than they did !!!. We had five starters, all in full BWCC kit (did look good) and a few were taking it very serious, rear carbon disc wheels, four spoke carbon front wheels on tubs, bright overshoes, skin suits and three of us wearing full aero head gear. When we arrived it was still warm but with a niggling little wind, but would you believe it, we were greeted with traffic lights on the course ! they were not there on Monday night, just our luck. However we all took a vote as the lights were on our side of the road to go ahead, as we could ride inside the cones even if the lights were red. Besides us riders, we had Terry Carr and Mr Damant Snr, (who road out on his bike - good on yer Mr D) watching at the start/finish point. Out of the riders everyone did well, Karthic is doing well, one to watch in the future, Adrian is a strong rider and is looking good and it was great to see Ian Damant riding after having a few heath problems of late. In the end the race was won by 4 seconds !!, after 14 miles of racing, to the delight of Gary over Tony. (next year maybe Tony)
Now for the lighter side of the evening. Tony informs us that his chain came off during the race, valuable seconds lost !! so if anyone can ask the fairies that live in that area if this is true, we will n---------ever ever know. Pat who said he would join us after something called Playing Golf, is still, so I have been told trying to get out or the rough on the eighteenth. Come on Pat, get the bike out instead. Brendon, was a DNS, if this was anything to do with him going the full distance last Friday, we will have to ask him this Friday. I have checked the local hospitals for sore leg intakes, but all have come up blank. See yer this Friday mate. So come on the rest of you Trevor, Dave Brown, Pat, Friday nights can be used for the BWCC Tour training, remember there is some cycling to be done in between the drinking.
