The events that will decide club championships for 2008
have been decided. See Events page for
details
Racing season starts for club members
Three club members started the Hainault Hilly on Sunday
9 March. The results were-
61st - Adrian - 1:33:43
77th - Karthic - 1:42:30
DNF - Gary - suffering from after effects of virus.
Winner - Jason White, JD Cycles - 1:11:01.
Evening 10 series 2008
The calendar for the 2008 series is now available. See
Events page for full details.
Tour de France
Details of the annual trip to watch part of the Tour de
France are now available. See
Events page.
Committee Meeting held on 5 February 2008
The following matters were discussed.
- Race Programme - The CTT London East local
handbook has not yet been published. As soon as it is available, the evening
10 series dates will be published on the web site and the Time Trial
secretary will nominate events for club championships.
- CTT affiliation - Concern had been expressed
over the amount charged for club affiliation and rider levies for riding
Time Trials. The club had not sent a delegate to the AGM in recent years so
it was suggested we do so for the 2008 meeting in the autumn.
- Evening 10 series - The 2007 series in general
was a success not least because of the partnership with Team Economic
Energy. The general atmosphere created by the number of entries and the food
provided by Leslie Everest had made the events enjoyable both competitively
and socially. However it was diminished by the lack of Becontree participants.
Members are encouraged to come along to Navestock on Friday evenings to
ride, help or just socialise.
- Dagenham Town Show - The club is keen to
participate but is in need of an organiser. Volunteers welcome.
- Web Site - A considerable amount of material has
been added to the History page. This includes photographs, Dinner Menus,
Handbooks and event programmes; going back to the early 1930's. Have a look
to see how things have changed over the past 80 years.
- Next Meeting - 1 April.

Committee Meeting held on 4 December 2007
The following matters were discussed.
- New Committee Member - It was agreed that Gary Tyrrell be invited
to serve as a committee member for this year.
- Membership 2008 - It will not be necessary to charge members the
full amount for 2008 but £10 will be requested. Members will be circulated
with information of where to pay.
- Affiliations 2008 - The club has already affiliated to British
Cycling and Cycling Time Trials. It was agreed we will also renew our
affiliation to Eastern Counties Cycling Association.
- Marshalling Commitments - The club is required to supply 2 marshals
for the ECCA event on E2/10 on Saturday 27 September. Contact Tony
Capon if you can assist.
- Club Championships - The championship events will be decided when
the CTT publishes the local handbook for 2008. See the Rules
page for the list of trophies available.
- Heffer Memorial - The club has not applied for a separate event but
will nominate one of the events to be held by Basildon CC on the same
course.
- Evening 10 Series - The 2008 series of events has been applied for
using the same course as before and roughly the same dates and times. Full
details will be published as soon as the local events handbook is available.
- Athletes 10 - As requested at the AGM, one of the Friday evening
events will be nominated as an "Athletes" event using standard
cycles and equipment. Friday 20 June has been allocated for this and
detailed rules will be published with the 10 series calendar.
- "Prologue" - The Navestock event to be held on Friday 4
July will be run as 1 lap of the E14A/10 course to celebrate the start of
the Tour de France on the next day. The event will be similar to that held
in 2007 and full details will be published with the 10 series calendar.
- Dagenham Town Show - This will be held on the
weekend of 19/20 July and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Road
Safety Department will provide facilities for cycling promotion. It will be
beneficial for our club to participate so if you are able to help with
organisation, please contact Arthur.
- Tour de France 2008 - The annual trip to watch
part of the Tour de France has been organised and details will be published
on this site shortly. All places have now been filled but if you would like
to be considered in the event of a cancellation or register your interest
for 2009, please contact Brendon.
- Next meeting - Tuesday 5 February 2008 at the Thatcher's
Arms, Warley
Sunday Clubruns
Club members meet by the bus stop outside Corbetts Tey cemetery
each Sunday morning for a gentle social ride. All members are welcome to
participate but they leave at 8:30 am sharp so don't be late. The length of the
ride and the route are generally agreed at the time.
Club AGM held on 2 October 2007
The following matters were discussed.
- A new(ish) committee was elected. See Officers
for details.
- It was decided that the committee will meet on the
first Tuesday of every second month from December 2007. Venue and timing
will be decided and published in due course. Dates for the next year are-
1 April 2008
3 June 2008
5 August 2008
- All affiliations will be renewed for 2008
- The Heffer Memorial Time Trail will be promoted in
2008.
- A Tour de France social ride will again be organised in
2008. Details will be published in due course.
- The evening 10 mile Time Trial series will be promoted
in 2008 with the following conditions
- The calendar of events will be similar to that of
2007
- The same course as 2007 will be used, i.e. the
E14a/10 at Navestock
- This will be a joint promotion with Team Economic
Energy
- A one lap competition for club members will be
included for those who do not wish to ride the full distance
- On the day before the Tour de France prologue, the
evening's event will be a one-lap race open to all (not just Becontree
and TEE riders) on the same lines as that organised in 2007.
- One evening will be designated as an "Athletes
10" where riders will be expected to use traditional cycles and
clothing. The date and conditions will be decided at the next committee
meeting and published.
- The fee will need to be increased from the current
£2, at least to cover the increased levy imposed by London East CTT.
- Any surcharge for small orders of clothing will be
subsidised by the club. If sufficient orders are received, any such
surcharge will be reduced or eliminated. Contact Tony
Capon with your order as soon as possible.
- All members are asked to let Arthur
have their current email address.
- If members are involved in club activities, they should
send details to Arthur
so that they can be publicised on the web site. Examples include weekend
social runs, evening training rides, team entries in open races, and race
results.
Evening 10 Series 2007
The 2007 series held in partnership with Team
Economic Energy.
has now been completed. See Results page for
the full details.
Congratulations to Ian for winning the Becontree
competition and Terry for winning the TEE competition.
Thanks to Stan Broom, Paul Smith and Leslie Everest for
their help throughout the series, to Riba for the food and of course all of the
riders.
Hope to see you all for the 2008 season. Watch out for publication of the
calendar as soon as it has been agreed by London East CTT.
